Dr Njoku has for many years been deeply involved in the National Response to HIV/AIDS epidemic. He was a pioneer member of the National Action Committee of AIDS and Team Leader to the South West Zone in the 2001 National HIV Sentinel Surveillance Survey. He served as, Chairman, HIV/AIDS Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (Lagos State Branch) from November 2000 to February 2004, and Project Manager, Lagos State NMA/FHI project on Capacity Building for Physicians on management of HIVAIDS and STIs from May 2003 to July 2004. Following the Federal Government intervention in provision antiretroviral drugs in 2001, he was head of FMOH ARV Treatment facility at Military Hospital Lagos. Between Sep 2012 and Dec 2014, he was Director of Science, US DOD Walter Reed Program Nigeria in which in charge of all research activities. Though retired he is still active in the HIV prevention research particularly in the aspect of blood safety.
