Secretary Blinken applauds NIMR’s disease response triumphs in US-Nigeria Collaboration

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited one of the ACE 6 project sites at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) to celebrate its remarkable strides against HIV, COVID-19 and more. Collaborative efforts with the US, through PEPFAR, USAID, CDC, and NIH, took centre stage.

Commending NIMR’s holistic public health approach, Blinken praised the institute’s role in battling infectious diseases. Notably, the groundbreaking work on COVID diagnostic kits by NIMR scientists showcased successful knowledge transfer. Blinken engaged with key figures at NIMR, highlighting the institute’s effective use of US investments through PEPFAR, NIH, and PMI. The visit underscores the 2-decade success of US-Nigeria collaboration in public health.
